How do I pay to sponsor a student?

We accept cheques, money orders, cash (though not through the mail), and direct wire transfers via Western Union. You may also send post-dated cheques to be deposited bi-annually, annually, or in a lump sum.

To sponsor a student through any of these options, please email us at info@mosqoy.com

How do we know the money will be used wisely?

100% of the sponsorship funds will go directly into the SVYF account for use ONLY for tuition and housing. Unless otherwise requested by the donor, donations will be used for what the organization deems the most crucial: shipping and handling costs, students’ housing utility bills, printing costs, and buying textiles. If you have sponsored a student and requested updates, we will let you know which technical institute your student is attending and you can research that school through the internet to view its accreditation. Also, we will keep you informed on the success of the students' studies.

What happens if my student fails or drops out of post-secondary education?

We have carefully selected students who are at the top of their class and have a strong desire to study, so we hope that this should not be an issue. Once selected to participate in this project, they are required to attend tutorials to meet entrance requirements, as well as attend psychology appointments set up through Colegio Ollantay to prepare them for their post-secondary education and new lifestyle. We have warned the students about the changes they will have to overcome in Cusco, a much larger city than that which they are used to.

However, no matter how much preparation we endure, there is always the possibility of a student becoming discouraged or changing their minds. We have also explained to them that we will be monitoring their grades and speaking with their professors on a regular basis. Raul, our Peru correspondent, will continually check on their studies.

If a student is not pursuing his/her studies, or his/her grades are lacking, Raul will meet with them and issue a warning. If this behavior continues, they will be removed from the project.

If your student is removed from the project, you have two choices. You can cease your sponsorship altogether, or choose another student who has been waiting and they will then be given the opportunity to receive post-secondary education. We obviously strongly encourage the latter option.
