Enrique Huamán Quispe

Student ID #: S0603
Birthdate: July 15, 1983
Dream profession: Tourist Administration

I am 23 years old and was raised with four older siblings in the community of Quelcanca (the furthest and very rural community of the Patakancha Valley). My mother passed away and my father is a campesino worker (farmer).

I have a strong desire to study to become a professional. All of my siblings are nothing, and I have to be more determined in my studies if I want to pursue further education and, therefore, better myself for the future - for the good of myself, my community, and my country.

Note:
Enrique began his studies in September 2007.

I am 20 years old. Both my parents have passed away but my family was raised in the community of Obesca. I am now an orphan, living in Ollantaytambo and caring for my 12-year-old brother.

I want to become a professional because someone like me would sacrifice anything to study - to be able to always better my situation.

Elsa Mestas Andia

Student ID #: S0604
Birthdate: November 29, 1987
Dream profession: Accounting, computer science, or languages

I am 18 years old and am the 5th of 6 siblings, raised by my parents in Ollantaytambo. My father passed away and my mother is a pedlar.

I want to better myself through education so that I can help my family. After obtaining my career, I will help people with low economic means and open an institution to support mothers who are the primary sustenance of their homes.

Note: Just as this project was starting up, Elsa's father died suddenly this summer. It has been a trying couple of months for her but she has helped us immensely with this project and has an incredibly strong work ethic.

Ebhert Florentino Alvarez Huaman

Student ID #: S0606
Birthdate: October 16, 1987
Dream profession: Tourism Industry

I was born and raised in Ollantaytambo with 4 sisters (1 older, 3 younger). I am 18 years old. My father is an agricultural worker and my mother is a housemom.

My desire is to better myself from the condition in which I find my family and be able to support my sisters. I hope that later in my studies I too could help the rest who need support and therefore, they too, can get away from the crisis we find ourselves in.

Note: Ebhert is a leader of the class - one of those teenagers who is cool among his peers though devoutly focused on his studies at the same time. He made a beautiful speech at the commencement ceremony thanking us for this opportunity, saying that they have never been offered a chance to follow their dreams and if given the chance, they promise to succeed.

This is the first time that I have seen a support like this and we have to put in our part. After I have a profession, I would like to be a person who can help the rest of the impoverished.

The first thing I would do is contribute the money lent to me to other people who truly want to accomplish their dreams and need help to do so.

Note: Rosmery is our idealist. One of her suggestions for the project was "to contact the presidents of countries so that they can promote our textiles project and youth project." I think that's a great idea! George, Stephen?
